Prosthetic appliances produced from flat moulds are the simplest way of achieving professional quality results.
Technically the process is very simple and doesn’t require anything more complicated than a few basics sculpting tools and some craft store materials, and can be quite literally done on a kitchen table.
This one simple process, once mastered, can produce incredible, high quality results. Many of the prosthetics you see on film and television these days are produced this way and the flat mould technique is responsible for some way bigger and more complex looks than you’d expect.
Neill says of it: “Once you have the technique nailed, it can be applied to a vast range of projects. With a little imagination you can create full head prosthetics, old age character makeups and I’ve even created full body prosthetic creature creations for movies using this self-same technique.”
