Congratulations to 7-week course graduate Una Ryu who just won the prestigious Stan Winston School Character Makeup Contest with her ‘Gatekeeper of Hell’ project, what a fantastic achievement!
Una completed our 7-week course in 2017, and this was her final project. In her application for the competition, she said of the piece, “My creation’s motive is the 18 stages of hell in Buddhist mythology. I wanted to achieve the creature look of one of the gatekeepers in my own world. the letter mark on the face meaning is the pain of parting with loved ones. ‘Hell’ in general has vicious imagery in our minds, but there’s beyond that also has individual stories. this is a makeup application, the design, lifecasting, sculpt, mould making, silicone run, paint, hair laid by me.”
Well done Una!
