We’re very excited to be partnering Falmouth University in delivering this forward-looking postgraduate course. It’s the first course to combine digital and practical manufacturing skills to produce physical objects – an approach that’s emerging out of necessity in professional FX workshops, but that until now, hasn’t been offered as a packaged, taught learning path.
Students will learn how to design and build in a virtual space, then explore how to realise their creations as physical objects through the use of CNC machining and 3D printing, as well as utilising more traditional mould making, casting, sculpture and fabrication techniques. This will allow the combining of existing skills with new ones so those who have worked solely in the world of 3D and digital modelling can progress into physical manufacturing, and those with a background in model, prop-making and prosthetics can introduce digital design and manufacturing processes into their workflow.
If you’re looking for postgraduate study in the field of prosthetic effects this course will take you to the forefront of the craft. Based in a vibrant international film school within a specialist creative arts university, you will also benefit from a comprehensive visiting lecture series with guest speakers from global industry.
